Leonora (Mantsch) Allan

Leonora Basinger Allan, age 94, died January 27, 2007, at a local care home. She was born June 5, 1912, and Cleveland, Ohio, to Michael Walter Mantsch and Ida Catherine (Zaig) Mantsch.

She was the oldest of three children. The family moved to California in 1924. She graduated from Compton High School in 1930.

She married Al Basinger in 1933, while he was in the U.S. Navy. While her husband within the Navy and the Civil Aeronautics Administration, they moved often. They lived in California, Utah, Montana and Arizona. After settling in Prescott and 1945, they helped establish the American Lutheran Church.

She was active in her church, Navy Mother's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Adult Center of Prescott, and numerous other civic organizations. She enjoyed numerous crafts and handiworks. She also enjoyed reading, dancing and socializing with her many friends. She enjoyed traveling the world over.

Leonora was preceded in death by her husbands, Al Basinger and George Allen, Sr., and her brother Robert.

She is survived by her children; Lucille (Jeff) Wanee, Gordon (Gerry) Basinger, Dan (Marion) Basinger, Georgia Simpson, and Noreen (Al) Hartzell; and a brother, Walt Mantsch. She had nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great great grandsons.

A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Dr., Prescott.

In the lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Willow Wind Residents Care Facility, Hospice of the Pines, or Care by Design.

The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
