James E. (Jim) Vickers

Dr. James E. Vickers, 74, of Cottonwood, died Dec. 12, 2008. He was born March 7, 1934, in Jerome, to Emett and Louise (Reed) Vickers.

Jim graduated from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Ore. He completed his undergraduate work at the Univer-sity of Oregon and received his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Jim practiced Optometry in Phoenix for 45 years and upon leaving dedicated his time and equipment to the Old Town Mission in Cottonwood.

Jim was extremely proud of and dedicated to his Jerome birthplace and his deepest passion was cooking, trying a new recipe every day. He had many interests and hobbies besides cooking he loved gardening, antique trucks, traveling and most of all spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Jean (Hustwit) Vickers, his daughters Jimmi Vickers and Vickie (Walt) Donovan, step sons Lou (Debbie) Smith and Timothy (Tina) Smith, his grandchildren Trinity, Travis, Tara, Tanner, Brandon, Dakota and Sean; nephews Rick, Brian and Chris; nieces Deborah, Kim and Jolene.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 28, in the Westcott Funeral Home at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in Westcottʼs reception room.

Per Dr. Vickers request, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Verde Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 1429, Cottonwood, Ariz., 86326 for the neutering of feral cats.
