Ira Verlo (Scotty) Atkins

Ira Verlo (Scotty) Atkins, died on May 29th, 2004 after 88 wonderful years of life. Born in Prescott, Ariz. on May 25th 1916, he spent his childhood in San Francisco, Calif. and Prescott, Arizona.

He graduated from Prescott High School class of 33.

He was employed by Phelps Dodge, Clarkdale Az; served in the US Navy during WWII and spent most of his career with Vyne Brothers Electric Company.

He married Harriet Vyne in 1940 and had 2 sons Richard and Tom.

Harriet preceded him in death in 1993 after 53 years of joyful marriage. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Naomi Boyce, his children Tom & Richard Atkins, Richard's wife Rainy Atkins, three grandchildren and spouses Cherie & Clayton Pass, Kathrine Atkins-Castillo and George Castillo, Brian and Laura Atkins and five great grandchildren Tiffany, Jacqueline, Victoria, Ryan and MacKenzie.

Scotty will remembered for his contributions to his community, his love of laughter, a good story and a clever joke but most of all he will be remembered for his absolute dedication to his wife his children and their children; and his commitment to making a joyful life for all of those around him.

A celebration of Scotty's life was held on June 1st at the Arizona Pioneer's Home where he spent the last four years of his life surrounded by love and excellent care.
