The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona December 24, 2003 Dr. Norman G. Lewis passed away December 21, 2003 at Boswell Hospital. He was born in Boston, January 17, 1925, to Capt. Raymond and Eleanor Lewis. He grew up on Cape Cod. During WWII he served at sea in both theaters after graduating from the MA. Maritime Academy. Post-war, he graduated Utah State Univ. and performed a fellowship at Univ. of Wisconsin. Graduating medical school at University of Utah in 1954. Re-entering the Navy he completed an OB-GYN residency at Oakland Naval Hospital. Then serving at Naval hospitals in Japan, Philadelphia, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the Surgeon General's Office in Washington D.C., retiring in 1975 as the XO of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Virginia. Moved to Phoenix, AZ. as the Director of Maternal and Infant Care for Maricopa County, retiring in 1988. He moved to Sun City, AZ in 1986, Joining both Union Hills and Aspen Hills (Flagstaff) Country Clubs. A member of Willowbrook United Methodist, he served as a Stephens's minister. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jerry Lewis, his daughters; Marguerite Commons and husband Tim of Atlanta, Georgia, Heather Walker and, husband Don of Cave Creek, AZ, and son Bill Lewis and wife Christine and his only granddaughter Kristian of Franklin, Tennessee, his sisters Dorothy O'Laughlin of Phoenix, AZ and Winnie Lewis of Peabody, Massachusetts. A memorial service was held at Willowbrook United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley or Habitat for Humanity. |
