Eileen Hughes, loving wife, devoted mother and cherished sister, passed away peacefully on Nov.15 after a short illness.

Born in the township of Edwards, Kan., on March 31, 1927, Eileen Jordan grew up in Garden City, Kan., and married Arthur L. Hughes, a lieutenant in the Army Air Force and bomber pilot, in 1945. Over the next 30 years, Eileen lived throughout the United States, in Alaska and overseas, raised two children, and moved with her husband to Southern California after his retirement from the Air Force. She later moved with Art to Wickenburg, Ariz., living there more than 15 years, and then retired to Colorado Springs, Colo.

Known for her love of bridge, Eileen always was ready to host a get-together for cards or fun. She loved roses as well as flowers of all kinds, kept a sharp eye out for hummingbirds and butterflies, and pampered her cats Frank and Lucy. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her husband Art in Colorado Springs, children Lee Walker in Colorado Springs and Jim Hughes in Los Angeles, sisters Barbara Miller in Colorado Springs, Ellen Gilliam in Pasadena, Calif., and Bonnie Hassall in Wickenburg, and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Jordan and sister Betty Martz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that celebrate pets and provide care to animals.
