Lillian Gertrude (Rouse) Cook

Lillian Gertrude “Trudy” Cook, age 92, a very warm and caring lady, went to heaven Dec. 21. She passed away peacefully under the loving care of Chris and Maria Pibo Serenity Care Home in Surprise, Ariz., where she had been a resident for the last two years.

She was born Feb. 27, 1916 to Coleman and Gertrude Rouse at home in Utica, Ky. She moved to California in 1940 where she worked for RCA Victor Record Company until 1948, when she moved to Wickenburg, Ariz., to become the co-owner of the Greyhound Bus Depot and Round Up Cafe with her sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Gibson, Jr.

While there, she met and married Mel Cook with Greyhound Bus Lines in 1950 and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and then to Sun City, Ariz., in 1965, where they enjoyed a full life of happiness until Mel’s passing in 1986.

After the death of her husband, she met Mr. Gale Burton of Sun City, her constant companion and friend. They were blessed to have 20 years together, enjoying world travel, family and friends.

Trudy is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ernest B. Rouse and William H. Rouse, and sisters, Anna Salmon, Myrtle Gibson, Thelma Taylor, and Virginia Fullmer.

Survivors include her constant companion and friend Gale Burton, eight nieces, two nephews, and 64 great-nieces and nephews, and lots of great-great nieces and nephews.

Auntie was a very compassionate care-giving lady who will always be in our hearts.

Services were held Saturday (Dec. 27) at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in loving memory of Lillian “Trudy” Cook, to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix AZ 85014-5656.
