September 19,1929 - December 31, 2008

Ray Palmer, born Sept. 19, 1929, passed away Dec. 31, 2008.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of 15 years; stepson Jon Bacha; and his loving sister Carolyn Adkins of Swansea, Ill.

Ray and Barbara moved to Prescott four years ago from Orange County, Calif., where he retired as a nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care. Before that Ray had been a nurse in adult ICU, having had a mid-life career change as an educator and principal of several outdoor schools. He also ran a mountain camp in Colorado for several summers. Ray served his country in the Army.

As an avocation, writing was a true pleasure. He completed an eight-year project of co-writing an exceptional musical called "What If," which came very close to being funded here in Prescott. He also spent four-hours a day writing a fantasy novel that was almost completed and has been entrusted into the hands of a beloved friend for completion.

Ray was diagnosed with bile duct cancer three years ago and was given four months to live. Being the fighter that he was, he did everything he could to fight the disease, including a strict organic diet, positive imaging, radiation and chemotherapy while continuing to work out religiously. The local hiking paths were his friends.

His greatest wish has been to see the musical "What If " become produced on stage. His family and friends have set up a memorial fund to help realize this dream. Donations in his honor may be sent to The Ray Palmer Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 3186 N. Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301 or P.O. Box 12284, Prescott, AZ 86304. On the memo portion of the check put "'What If' musical project."

Services will be noon Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave., corner of Park Ave. and Copper Basin Road.
