The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Jesse D. Holt was born Sept. 8, 1935, in Erwin, Tenn., to Ray E. and Billie (Douglas) Holt. When Jesse was two years old his family moved to Nevada where his father worked as a miner. Jesse served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and thereafter was a miner himself, working in the copper mine for Cypress-Bagdad and in uranium mines around the Grand Canyon, among other places. He also worked at the Prescott VA Medical Center for 12 years before retiring. Jesse was fond of meeting his friends for coffee in the mornings at the local Wal-mart store and at Taco Bell. He became an unofficial greeter of sorts and made new friends out of total strangers on many occasions. He was quick to smile and shake your hand and to listen to your thoughts on the day's news. He had his own opinions about the ways of the world and stayed true to his beliefs in his forthright manner. Jesse enjoyed talking about guns and he enjoyed going with his friends to take target practice. His friends were especially proud of him when, during the height of the illness that ended his life, he bought 41 bicycles for young children in the community for Christmas. Jesse Holt died on Dec. 21, 2008, in the hospice unit at the VA Medical Center. Information provided by survivors. See Also: Find A Grave |
