Donald Keith Shafto, 87, passed away at his home in Lake Havasu City, Tuesday. He was born May 30, 1924 in Kearney, Neb., to Cyrus Marvin and Blanche Scheringer Shafto.

Don was an original pioneer, moving to Lake Havasu City in 1972, coming from Axtell, Neb., where he lived since 1941. He farmed in Axtell for several years until health reasons brought him to Lake Havasu. He worked at McCulloch until retirement. Don loved to grow a high garden as well as making jewelry, including London Bridge souvenirs. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed his coffee-drinking friends every morning. He was a 50-year life member of the Elks, a member of the Lions and the Lutheran Church. The special bond between his nephew, Jim Breech, who lived with him and was his caretaker, will forever be remembered. Don will be deeply missed and always loved.

Don is survived by his daughters, Donna Runge and Cathy Ingram; sisters, Dorthy Smith, Marvelene Breech and Carol Kay; grandchildren, Craig, Brett, Darby Runge, Bobby, Angie and Christina Zozaya, Mike and Brandon Baird; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad, Marvin Shafto; mother, Blanche Shafto; daughter, Pamela Baird; sisters, Janet Trout and Phyllis Saunders; and a granddaughter, Tonya Zozaya.

A celebration of Don's life will be Friday, at 557 Gem Lane from 2-7 p.m. Condolences can be sent to the family directly or to www.lakehavasumortuary.com.
