The Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Tuesday, January 13, 2009 Ira R. Piper, 78, of Camp Verde, passed away Jan. 9, 2009. He was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Flagstaff, Ariz., to Chaucy Leroy Piper and Della Rae (Smith) Piper. Ira was one of the original Arizona cowboys. He had been featured in photographs in Arizona Highways. He enjoyed any outdoor activities, with much love for hunting, fishing, and camping. Ira was also skilled in leather working, and enjoyed old-fashioned cowboy-style Dutch oven cooking. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara. Ira is survived by his son Ivan (Mary) Piper of Camp Verde, daughters; Norma Cushman of Camp Verde, Barbara (Brooks) Muterspaugh of Tucson, and Mickey Jones of Tucson. Ira is also survived by his brothers; Fred Piper of Cottonwood, Bob Piper of Prescott, Charlie Piper of Cottonwood, and 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Parkside Community Church, 401 Camp Lincoln Road, Camp Verde. Bueler Funeral Home assisted the family.
