Norman Lee Black

Norman Lee Black of Humboldt, Arizona passed away May 11, 2005 while visiting his eldest son Roy in Texas.

Mr. Black was born on August 26, 1919 in Bradford, Arkansas, the son of Lee C. and Erna Myrtle Black and had four brothers and four sisters.

Norman was a frontier man. As a teenager during the Depression, he provided food for the family by trapping, hunting, and fishing. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. On September 6, 1941, he married Jewel in Jackson County Arkansas. Norm and his new wife moved to Arizona and worked as caretakers at a ranch, which was the winter residence for a newspaper owner from Chicago.

Mr. Black was a veteran of WWII.

After the birth of sons Roy and Paul, the family moved to Phoenix in 1951. Norman owned an appliance repair business. Jewel passed away on October 11, 1980. Norm remarried in 1983 to Ruth Noble. They moved to Humboldt in 1986. In his later years, he raised a large vegetable garden, particularly at his home in Humboldt. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor with his friends.

Norm was very active in his Church, The Mountain View Baptist Church in Dewey, Arizona, where he loved all his Church family and enjoyed their company and later their calls and visits after Ruth passed away in December 2003.

Norman is survived by his two sons: Roy Black and wife Jean of Whitewright, Texas and Paul Black and wife Trish of Phoenix, Arizona. Norm's only grandson, Roy's son Kinny, passed away in June 1982 at 11 years of age. He is survived by brothers: Carl Black and wife Margie of Bradford, Arkansas, Odell Black and wife Loretta of Centerton, Arkansas, Herman Black and wife Pat of Dowagiac Michigan. He is also survived by sisters: Erna McCarver of Ecru, Mississippi, Vivian Inman and husband Haskel of Niles, Michigan.

A special grandson Doug Noble and wife Dez of Cottonwood, Arizona were local caretakers for the past two years. A special thank you goes to Doug and Dez and their two children, Colton and Kaley, who loved their "Grandpa" very much. He loved you all so much and enjoyed your time together.

Memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, P.O. Box 387, Dewey, AZ 86327. A memorial will be held later this summer at his Church in Dewey.
