Darrell Flake

Darell Gardner Flake, the eldest son of Vernon Flake and Georgia Mae Gardner Flake passed away on Wednesday November 21, 2008, at his home in Dickson, Tennessee, surrounded by his family. Darrell Flake was born in Snowflake, Arizona, on November 16, 1931.

He was raised in Snowflake and helped his Dad with Cattle Ranching. As a young man the Vernon Flake Family relocated to BonaParte, Iowa, to raise Cattle on the Flake Family Farm. He is a descendant of William Jordan Flake and had fond memories of growing up in Snowflake and playing with his cousins. One favorite cousin was Dean Flake, of Snowflake Arizona.

We seemed to get in a lot of trouble together," he stated with a smile several days before his passing.

Mr. Flake is survived by his wife of 56 years, Floretta Hatton Flake. He is also survived by his nine children and 59 grandchildren.

Three of his grandchildren are currently serving full time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Flake loved sharing his faith with others and also served a mission as a young man to The Southern States Mission.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served as a Chaplain. He worked building LDS chapels throughout the south and raised in family in Clarksville, Tennessee.

A viewing at 10:00 a.m. is scheduled at The Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Dickson, Tennessee on January 24, 2009, with services to follow.
