Frank (Peter) Alward, age 82, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at the Veterans Medical Center, in Prescott, after a long and lengthy illness. Peter was born in Lincoln, England, on March 27, 1922, to Owen Doyle Alward and Beatrice Richardson Alward.

He was raised in the Los Angeles area and after serving in the U.S. Navy for 6 years, during WWII, he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif., graduating in 1951.

He retired from Rockwell International Space Division in Downey, Calif., in 1984.

Peter and his wife, Patricia, moved to Prescott in 1988. In his retirement, he discovered " the offerings" of Yavapai Community College and became very involved in woodworking and weaving classes.

Peter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia and his daughter, Lesley, both of Prescott; his son, David and his wife, Christine, and son, Mark of Redmond, Ore.; his sister, Willa and husband, Graham Zoff of Pasadena, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Steven, and his brother Jack.

There will be an open house gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, May 5, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Alward family home in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Peter's name to the Yavapai College Foundation for Development of the Sculpture Garden. Donations can be sent to Yavapai College Foundation, 1100 East
Sheldon St., Prescott, Ariz., 86301.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Family Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
