Evelyn Martin, a long-time resident of Prescott, passed away on Thursday, April l5th, at 11:23 a.m. in Yuma, Ariz., after a long,
courageous battle with leukemia.

Evelyn was born in Montrose, Colorado, on July 11, 1916. She moved to Bumblebee, Ariz., where she met and married Joe Martin after 3 months of courtship. The marriage lasted 49 years before Joe died a short time before their 50th wedding anniversary.

They had three children: Shirley (Maier), Sandra (Ernst) and Joseph Earl, who died at the age of 2 1/2 years.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

God saw she was suffering and a cure was not to be. So he held out his arms and said, "Evelyn come to me". She put up a valiant fight and tried so hard with all her might. She didn't want to leave her loved ones, but she had others gone before, so she left us and walked
towards God's open door.

Now, although we'll miss her always and her wonderful smile, we'll have to say goodbye, but just for a little while.

Services in celebration of her life will be held on May 1, at 3 p.m., at 321 South Cortez, where she lived for most of her married life. All friends and family are invited to attend.

A private ceremony was held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Hampton Funeral Home on South Cortez St., Prescott, Arizona.
