The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, February 23, 2007 Robert James McGrath, 79, of Prescott, Ariz., died at his son's home in Farmington, N.M., on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, surrounded by family and his lady friend, Joan. He was born on June 14, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of James and Nellie (Urton) McGrath. Robert graduated from Baker University in Kansas in 1949. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After leaving the service, he lived in California, where he met his wife, Marie. He worked for Miles Laboratories for much of his career, and retired as president of the Citrotech division. Marie and Bob chose to retire to Prescott, Ariz., where they lived for more than a decade. Robert was actively involved with the First Congregational Church, Hidden Valley Association, and as a volunteer for People Who Care. He had a love for learning and enjoyed taking lasses at Yavapai Community College. Robert also enjoyed hiking in the mountains and the Grand Canyon (which he hiked rim to rim) and tennis. He was in a wheelchair hitting balls back to his son, Patrick, two weeks before he died of brain cancer. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marie, in 2003. They had five children and 13 grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a stellar sense of humor, and the memories of that humor help those who love him through his death. After the death of Marie, Robert was fortunate to find a loving friend in Joan Bercher of Prescott, who has provided support to him and to his children through a difficult battle with cancer. He ia survived by Joan; daughter, Katherine McGrath of Bristol, Ind.; son Patrick McGrath and his wife Rita McGrath of Farmington N.M.; daughter Laura McGrath of Bangalore, India; daughter Ann and her husband Michael Angarola of So. Nyack, N.Y.; and his son Dan McGrath and his wife Kimberly McGrath of Hillsborough N.J.; and gandchildren, Sulai, Robert, Amanda, Shane, Malcolm, Michelle, Hannah, Hope, Kristy, Joelle, Patrick, Elizabeth and Sean.
