| Dr. Charles Ray Campbell, May 13, 1937 - June 26, 2006. On a special day in Elizabeth, LA. on May 13, 1937, the union between John and Luvenia Campbell brought the arrival of the youngest Campbell son - Charles Ray. Campbell and his five siblings relocated to Arizona from Louisiana in 1945. Shortly after their arrival to Phoenix both parents perished within two years. Without parents at the age of 7, Campbell, along with some of his siblings, were cared for by sisters Carol Campbell-Hurd and Alvie Campbell-Bible (now deceased). Dr. Campbell attended Phoenix Community College and Grand Canyon University where he received his Bachelors degree in Health Science. He also attended Arizona State University where he did graduate studies. Dr. Campbell earned his Master's degree in Public Administration and his Doctorate in Higher Education Administration with emphasis on Public and Environmental Health from Nova University. He also taught courses at Phoenix College, Embry Riddle and Arizona State University. In 1997 Dr. Campbell retired from Arizona State University. He was the majority owner of the Arizona Informant Newspaper, which he and Cloves Sr. started in 1971. Dr. Campbell has served on numerous boards and commissions while also receiving awards which include Distinguished Alumni of Maricopa Community College District, Arizona State University Distinguished Alumni, Planned Parenthood Achievement award, Maricopa County NAACP Roy Wilkins award, Phoenix College Living Legend award and Career Development Leadership award just to name a few. Dr. Campbell was a lifetime member of the NAACP. Dr. Campbell siblings who preceded in the death are the following: Mabel, Walter, Alvie, John, and Cloves. Charles is survived by one sister, Carol Campbell-Hurd (Fred); two brothers Roland Campbell Sr. (Eleanor); Dr. Donald Campbell (Doris) and former ex-wife Cassandra L. Yancey and a host of nieces and nephews all of Phoenix, Arizona. Visitation was at Universal Memorial Center, 1100 E. Jefferson St., Phx, Az. Funeral Services were at Tanner Chapel A.M.E.
