Meryl Reber Hale peacefully passed away on July 4, 2006 in Scottsdale. She is survived by her step-son, Robert Hale, (Lorna Wolfe) of Gilbert; son Michael Hale, (Sherilyn Wheeler), of Tempe; daughters, Ellaree Olinger, (Rod) of Reno Nevada, Carol Van Loo (Jim) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lisa Thompson, (Jerry) of Mesa; sisters, Joyce Nevitt (Ed) of Queen Creek and Carolyn Johann (Bob) of Mesa. She was also blessed with 24 beautiful grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Meryl has lived in the valley since she was 3 years old. She was the oldest of 7 children and was raised on a farm in Higley. She graduated from Mesa High School in 1940 and later from A.S.U. in 1944. After teaching 2 years in Safford she served an LDS mission to New Zealand. She then taught at Alma Elementary School and on June 16, 1954, married Aaron Hale. When her husband became ill and later died, she returned to teaching at Lincoln Elementary School and went back to A.S.U. where she received her Masters Degree in 1968. She retired in 1983, after nearly 30 years of teaching. Meryl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various church callings throughout her life. She will most be remembered for her beautiful organ music in the Mesa 9th ward where she served as ward organist for nearly 35 years. Being a single mother, Meryl was a very strong and independent individual known for her great organizational skills. She was very generous and compassionate to those around her, beloved by many friends and neighbors. She often helped out those who were in need or less fortunate. She had a tremendous love for her children and grandchildren and was most happy spending time with them. They will all greatly miss her sense or humor, her generous smile, her welcoming hugs and her loving heart. Visitation at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ.
