William Douglas "Doug" Slocum has passed away July 10, 2006, at age 53. Doug was a graduate of ASU and an outstanding baseball player for the Mesa Community College and the ASU Sun Devils. During his career, Doug was an All State Pitcher at Saguaro High School and went on to pitch in two straight Junior College championships at Mesa Community College while earning All-American Honors. At Arizona State University he set many pitching records, some of which remain standing today. Doug played professional baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league organization for five years. In 1998 he was initiated into the Scottsdale Sports Hall of Fame. After baseball Doug became a well-known Mortgage banker in the Phoenix Valley. Doug loved watching all sports and enjoyed golfing and spending time with his children. He was born on November 7th, 1952 in Tucson, Arizona. His family later moved to Scottsdale. He is survived by his parents Bill and Donna Slocum of Scottsdale; his sister Margery Senovic; brothers David Slocum of Taylor, Arizona and Jim Slocum of Moscow, Tennessee; and his children Ryan and Shannon Slocum of Mesa, Arizona; and their mother Dawn Slocum also of Mesa. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Rd., Mesa.
