Mary Naomi (Nonie) Johnson
(December 21, 1937 - May 1, 2012)

Mary Naomi (Nonie) Johnson of Snowflake Arizona passed away May 1, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born to Marion W. and Elva Virgina Wilhelm and upon Marion’s death was raised by her father Harvey Wilhelm. Growing up Nonie lived in St. Johns AZ, Sanders AZ, and Pine AZ. She graduated in 1956 from St. Johns High School. She has been a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many capacities including young women’s president and relief society president.

Nonie was well known in the Snowflake Taylor area, she was the first and only lady to serve as mayor of Snowflake, She was a member of the League of Arizona cities and towns, NCOG, and Arizona Game and fish commissioner for five and a half years appointed by Governor Fife Symington.

Nonie married her loving husband Robert A. Johnson of 47 years in Gallup, New Mexico, Together they had three sons Sandy Kim Johnson (Nancy) Gilbert AZ, Eric Wayne Johnson (Altia) of Mesa AZ, and Michael Lynn Johnson (Paula) of Snowflake AZ.. She is survived by her husband Robert A. Johnson, two sons Eric Wayne and Michael Lynn, 13 Grandchildren, 11 Great grandchildren, father Harvy Wilhelm and Mother Elva Virginia of Snowflake, Brothers Marion R. Wilhelm of Snowflake, Carroll Spence Wilhelm of St. Johns, Sisters Lydia Wardel of Vienna VA, Betty Johnson of Aloha, OR and Mary Tillitson of Pietown, NM.

She is preceded in death by one son Sandy Kim Johnson, Biological Father Marion W. Wilhelm and Sister Lydia Wardel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 5, 2012 at 2 pm at the Snowflake Main street chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a visitation with family starting at 1:15 pm.

Interment will follow at the R.V. Mike Ramsay Memorial Cemetery, Snowflake AZ.
