The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday December 12, 2005 Zula C. Gentry, age 77, of Prescott Valley, died Dec. 7, 2005, at the Meadow Park Care Center, in Prescott. She went to be with her Lord and Savior after a battle with pneumonia. Zula was born Nov. 30, 1929, the daughter of Alvin Thomas and Flossie (Harris) Davenport in Ardmore, Okla. She moved with her family to the Casa Grand - Eloy area when she was in high school. She married J.L. Stephens and raised their three children in that area. They then moved to Roll, Ariz. in 1959, where they were active in community events and activities. After the children were grown they moved to Buckeye, where they operated a hog farm. Later, Zula moved to Texas where she worked out of her home as a dispatcher. Before her prolonged illness, she had been active as a 4-H leader, the Yuma County Leaders Board, the Mohawk Valley Roping Club, Garden Club and VFW Auxiliary. Zula started the first 4-H Club in the Wellton Mohawk Valley. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, her horses and her dog, AJ. She loved caring for all her livestock, pigs, buffalo and horses. As her health began to fail she returned to Arizona to be near her son and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest daughter, Pamela Ray Navy Cassidy. Zula is survived by her son, John (Jay) Stephens of Prescott Valley; daughter, Judy Newman of Wellton, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Jimmy, Geoff, Aliza, Chad, Brad, Stephen, Justin and Tammy; and 31 great-grandchildren. Zula is also survived by her sister, May Lou Alfier of Utah and four half-brothers. Zula will be missed but her memory and many stories of her life will live on in the hearts of many.
