NELSON I. BECK, FORMER WESTINGHOUSE ENGINEER

Nelson I. Beck Jr., a former Westinghouse Electric Corp. engineer, died Sunday of complications from a heart attack at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz.

Mr. Beck, 68, worked for Westinghouse for 41 years, including 18 years as a senior design engineer at the corporation's Resource Energy Systems Center in Monroeville.

Following his retirement in 1986, he and his wife, Nora, moved from their home in Plum to Prescott Country Club in Dewey, Ariz.

Mr. Beck was a retired Navy commander and served 23 years in the Navy, including six years of active duty during World War II and the Korean War. He served aboard the destroyer escort U.S.S. Tabberer during World War II, where he was the executive officer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Nora B. Smith of Boulder, Colo., Elizabeth B. Julka of Manlius, N.Y., and Nancy B. Doak of Cincinnati; four sisters, Susan For, Karen Dennis, Caroline Chapie, and Ruth Stafford, all of Phoenix; four brothers, Myron, Ira E., Henry D., all of Phoenix, and Wayne of Prescott; five grandchildren; and two adopted grandchildren.

A funeral will be held tomorrow in Prescott Valley, Ariz., followed by burial, with full military honors, at the Arizona Veterans National Cemetery in Phoenix.
