William F. Zaleski, a top Tucson restaurant-supply salesman and kitchen designer, died Monday of cancer. He was 55.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 7 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway.

Born in Phoenix, Zaleski learned to play guitar in his youth and during high school played guitar in a band led by Wayne Newton, who was a neighbor.

Zaleski used his musical ability to pay his way through Arizona State University.

After serving in the Navy, Zaleski worked during the 1960s as a salesman for Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceutical in Colorado.

He moved to Tucson in 1975, joining Shamrock Foods' restaurant sales division. He was hired by Ford Restaurant Supply in 1983 and became the top salesman in Tucson.

Zaleski was a member of a Tucson Police Department volunteer unit that assists officers with stakeouts, searches and traffic control. He also held small acting parts with the Arizona Opera Company during its last four seasons.

Survivors include his wife, Francoise Loubet; son, William of Phoenix; daughter, Beth Ann Zaleski of California; parents, Robert and Dorothy Zaleski of Prescott; three brothers, Robert J. of Phoenix, Gary B. of Florida and Don C. of Colorado; stepchildren Richard Marshall, Laura Marshall and Maureen McDaniel; one grandson and three stepgrandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tucson Medical Center Hospice or a favorite charity.
