Gerald L. Aldridge

Doctor Gerald L. Aldridge, age 82, passed away Jan. 9, 2008, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born March 25, 1925, in Kineaid, Kan.

He graduated from Denver University, Denver Colo., and Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. He trained at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Janet; three daughters, GwyAnn Benda of Harrisville, Mo., Cherilyn SunRidge of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Renee (John) McKellips of Waukesha, Wis. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was president, CEO and member of the board of Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, Wis., for 28 years; at that time the hospital grew to 571 beds. His last major project at Theda Clark was the development of the Theda Star Air Medical Helicopter service.

Doctor Gerald L. Aldridge was director of the First National Bank and member of its Director Committees 1967-1986; director of the Neenah-Menasha United Way Capital Funds Program for two terms; and director of the Capital Funds Program for the YMCA. He was elected to two three-year terms to the following organizations: Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Brigade, YMCA, Northern Wisconsin Goodwill Industries, Fox Cities Cancer Society, Neenah Red Cross, Neenah Visiting Nurse Association, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Heart Association Neenah-Menasha, Presbyterian Homes Foundation-Waukesha, First Presbyterian Church and Neenah Downtown Development Committee of Neenah.

He was Adjunct Professor at six medical schools for 12 years.

Following retirement, he was engaged by the State Department to go to the country of Barbados to do a major study to determine the need for private health care in the Southern Caribbean. He was also contracted by Waukesha Memorial Hospital to do a major study to determine the need for an open-heart surgery program, which is now the second-largest in the Milwaukee area. His last consulting project in Wisconsin was an expert witness in seven malpractice cases with the Menu Law Firm in Appleton, Wis. He was also an international medical consultant with Schmidt-Garden & Erickson of Chicago, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale Palliative Care, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Arizona, 85259.

Private services will take place at a later date.

Sunrise Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
