Virginia Hasbrook, 94, of Williamson Valley died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, following a three-month illness.

She was the widow of aviation safety pioneer A. Howard Hasbrook who died in 2000.

Although not a pilot herself, Virginia loved to fly, and accompanied her husband on hundreds of flights.

Her own lifelong passion was horses. As a girl of 14, she trail-rode for months across much of the West with her grandfather, a former Civil War Cavalry officer. In the 1960's and 1970's, she ran a school of horsemanship in Oklahoma.

Since 1979, her non-profit Happiness Ranch in Williamson Valley has offered "horse love therapy" to children suffering from emotional trauma. She was still riding for recreation as recently as last May.

She is survived by her son and two grandsons; and her two beloved horses.

No public services are planned.
