Thomas S. Sterrett

Former Anchorage resident Thomas S. Sterrett, 64, died April 2, 1995, at the family ranch in Paulden, Ariz.

Mr. Sterrett was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Thomas and Mary Serena Sterrett. He was married Aug. 30, 1952, in Mount Healthy, Ohio. He moved to Paulden on May 20, 1990, from Friday Harbor, Wash.

He lived in Anchorage from 1973 to 1979 and again from 1980 to 1985.

From 1978 to 1985, he worked for Atlantic Richfield and retired in March 1985.

Mr. Sterrett was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean conflict. He earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Colorado University in Boulder, Colo., and Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.

Mr. Sterrett was an Appaloosa horse breeder and member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and Sundance 500. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association and American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Mr. Sterrett enjoyed hunting, fishing, falconry, boating and flying.

His family said: "He was proudest of his family, his Appaloosa babies and the beautiful blankets they wore."

Mr. Sterrett is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice of Mount Healthy; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Donna of Eagle River, Carl and Tammy, Steven and Anita, all of Anchorage; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Lee Marple of Portland, Ore., and MaryBeth and Jim McClain of Anchorage; grandchildren, Lisa, Tom III, Brian, Daniel, Matthew, Serena, Benjamin, Alyssa, Heather, Meghan, Ryan and Chandler; stepgrandchildren, Nicholas, Brenda and Daniel; and brother-in-law, Don Garrod of Nederland, Texas.

Memorial donations may be sent to Yavapai Regional Medical Center Home Health Restricted Funds, 1003 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. 86301.

Arrangements were handled by Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott, Arizona.
