Rev. Thomas Joel, Cotten, Jr., 70, of the Wilhoit community, Kirkland, Az., died May 3, 1995 at Healthwest Regional Medical Center, Phoenix, Az. He was born July 11, 1924 in Burkburnett, Tx. to Thomas J. & Essie M. Cotten, and raised in Delhi, Okla.

Rev. Cotten is survived by his wife Ruth, of the home; son & daughter-in-law, Phil & Gail Cotten of Norman, Ok; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Nancy & W. Berry Norwood of Prescott, Az. and Kathy & Richard Cartwright of Norman, Ok; 4 grandchildren, Jason & Jaime Cotten, Aaron Norwood & Kerry Middleton; great grandchild, Dustyn Russell; 3 half-sisters, Elsie, Margaret & Sybil.

Rev. Cotten was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leon, and a granddaughter Marcie Norwood.

The Cottens were married in 1943 in Delhi.

He served in the US Army 1944-46 and was a farmer before entering the ministry in 1954.

Rev. Cotten pastored churches in Lone Oak, Arnett, Forgan, Duncan, & Norman, Ok., before serving 20 years as a Director of Missions for Enon Baptist Assoc., Ardmore, Ok, prior to his retirement in 1991.

The Cottens worked 23 summers at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center youth camps, Davis, Ok. Rev. Cotten directed the summer children's camp at Falls Creek for several years. The Cottens also led 15 overseas evangelistic campaigns for International Crusades.

In 1991, they moved to Arizona to start a mission in Kirkland, the First Southern Baptist Church of Wilhoit, Ariz. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ardmore, Ok., Monday, May 8, 2: 00 p.m., with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating, assisted by Dr. Lyle Garlow.

Viewing will be at the church at 1:00 p.m., and prior to the service at the Fox Funeral Home of Davis, Ok. Interment Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, Ok. with Dr. Richard Hopper officiat ing.

A second memorial service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church, Prescott, Az., Wednesday, May 10, 10:30 a.m., Rev. Bill Agee officiating, assisted by Dr. Wendell Freeze.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts for First South ern Baptist Church of Wilhoit Building Fund, c/o First Southern Baptist Church, 518 E. Gurley St, Prescott, Az., 86301.
