Mary Lou Stone

Mary Lou Stone, 74, a resident of Sedona, Ariz. died peacefully in her home Nov. 4, 2003.

Mrs. Stone was a longtime resident of Michigan and had a 20-year career at the Continuum Center at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. She retired in 1992 and moved to Sedona in 1995. Mrs. Stone was a volunteer at Red Rock State Park, past president of University Women of Sedona and served on the board of directors of the Canyon Mesa Homeowners Association.

A longtime liberal political activist, Mrs. Stone was part of a Steering Committee that initiated a Democratic club in the Sedona area.

One of the great joys of Mrs. Stone's life was her many friendships. She loved a good party, challenging conversation and lots of laughter.

Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Stone; and is survived by daughters Kathleen Stone of Glendale, Ariz. and Colleen (Michael) Daley of Rochester, Mich.; sons Michael (Nancy) Stone of Scottsdale, Ariz. and James Stone of Ferndale, Mich.; a sister, Shirlee Laica of Michigan; a beloved uncle, Lou Cahill of Canada; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her dear friend and cousin Patsy Lou Waters.

A celebration of life was held in Mrs. Stone's honor Nov. 9.

Arrangements were handled by Greer's Mortuary of Sedona, Arizona.
