Richard Alan Barta, Jr., was born February 14, 1976, to Richard Alan Barta, Sr. and Linda Jean (Sapp) Barta in Lincoln, Neb. He died March March 24, 2006, at the VA hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 30 years.

Richard was baptized Nov. 11, 1984, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilber. He graduated from Wilber-Clatonia High School in 1994; his first job was working for Wilber Plumbing and Heating, which he purchased with his wife on March 1, 2006.

On Sept. 16, 2000, he was married to Holly Kay Hays, at Peace Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Neb., by Pastor Jon Tallman. To this union one child, Natalie Kay, was born on Dec. 22, 2003.

On July 23, 2002, he joined the United States Marine Corps, in which be served with 1st Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, Charlie Company, Weapons Platoon. While in the Marine Corps he deployed twice to the Middle East, and many other places around the world. He received the following decorations and awards, combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd Award), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Certificate of Commendation Expert Rifle Badge (2nd Award). Richard was medically retired from the Marine Corps on Jan. 31, 2006.

He volunteered with the Western Fire Department and the EMT Rescue Unit and was a member of the American Legion Club, Blue Valley Masonic Lodge #64 and the Wither Czech Alumni Band. He enjoyed playing with his daughter, Natalie, spending time with family and friends, and working hard.

He was very proud of his country and felt privileged to be able to serve in the United States Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Holly; daughter, Natalie, Western; parents, Linda and Abe Weinzweig of Prescott Valley; sisters, Samantha and husband Shawn Lockwood, Amanda Andrus, Julia Andrus all of Prescott Valley; parents-in-law, Mark and Karia Hays, of Plymouth, Neb.; stepfather, John Andrus, of Dell City, Texas; grandparents, Beverly Sapp, Lincoln, Neb., Dale and Dariene Rehm, of Plymouth, Neb., Robert and Linda Hays, of Plymouth, Neb., Bill and Donna Barnhart, Louisburg, Kan.; step-grandparent, Dorothy Sapp; sister-in-law, Kylie Flays, Bethany Hays, both Plymouth, Neb.; nieces and nephews, LeighAnn Barta, James, Logan and Kaiden Lockwood; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his father, Richard Barta Sr.; his grandparents, Felix and Erma Barta, Dan Sapp, and step-grandmother, Sally Andrus.

Services were held March 29, at Sokol Hall in Wilbur, Neb.
