John Earl Wagner

John Earl Wagner, 96, died peacefully on Jan. 23, 2009, at The Peridot Retirement and Assisted Living Facility, with comfort services provided by The Peridot staff, Tender Hearts Senior Care and Hospice of the Pines.

He was born April 11, 1912, in Hamilton, Mont., to John C. and Emma W. Wagner.

Mr. Wagner retired to Arizona in 1972 after a career in human resources. He was personnel director for the University of California, Berkeley, for Stanford Research Institute, Menlo Park, Calif., and for Cutter Laboratories, Berkeley, Calif. His volunteer activities included: in Sedona, EMT; in Yarnell, member of the water commission and school board; in Prescott, a docent for the Sharlot Hall Museum, volunteer for the Yavapai Medical Center, and mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

John was an active member of the Prescott Unitarian Universalist Fellowship where he helped secure software that facilitated efficient management of their resources.

Mr. Wagner was predeceased by Jean Helen Crawford Wagner and Dr. Marion Holmes Wagner. Survivors include his stepdaughter Lenny C. Gemski of St. Augustine Beach, Fla.; sons John J. Wagner of Napa, Calif., and Marc H. Wagner of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Yavapai Humane Society, 1625 Sundog Ranch Road, Prescott, Ariz., 86301 (to honor his feline friend, Lady Jane) or to The Salvation Army, 225 Montezuma St., Prescott, Ariz., 86303.
