Gerald (Jerry) Canther

Gerald "Jerry" Canther, 75, of Cottonwood, died Jan. 23 at his home. Jerry was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Forrest and Pearl (Long) Canther.

He served in the National Guard in the 1950s, worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad as a dispatcher and later became a radiology technician, working 20 years for Florida Hospital in Orlando.

Jerry was active in youth ministries for the Seventh-day Adventist Church as local and regional area Pathfinder director-coordinator in Michigan and Florida. He also organized mission trips to the Bay Islands of Honduras, establishing health clinics and donations of medical equipment.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Kelly) Canther; two sons, David Canther of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and Dennis Canther of Cottonwood, Ariz. and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 24 at the Cottonwood Seventh-day Adventist Church and a second service will be conducted in February on the island of Utila, Honduras.
