Mark Nelson Coker passed away October 1, 2012 at his home in Rimrock, AZ.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rosemary Coker, daughter Julia Coker, son Christopher Coker, brothers Terry Coker and Jeff Coker, sisters Elizabeth Roy and Tracy Blackford and step-mother Ann Coker.

Mark was born in Tucson, AZ on May 31, 1950 to Hollis and Vivian Coker (both deceased). The family moved to Flagstaff Arizona in 1959 where Mark grew up and graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1968.

He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1972 and served in Subic Bay as a MARS station radio operator. In 1981 he moved his family to Cottonwood. He developed an interest in Ham Radio as a young man and it remained a life-long passion which served to benefit many people.

He worked most of his life as a welder/mechanic but his welding skills were so highly specialized that later he traveled the country to weld on power-plant turbine diaphragms exclusively. Not only was Mark known for his electronic wizardry, he had that rare ability to look at something that was broken, or needed to be made, and come up with his own unique solution to fixing or making it that made it indestructible and “Coker Built”.

His other interests included science, electronics, engine repair, dirt bike riding, designing and fabricating tools and equipment. He had a giving heart and provided his time and services to different organizations and people in the Verde Valley and beyond. He touched many lives, both in person and through Ham Radio.

A semi-private memorial service will be held October 28th to remember a life that will be greatly missed.

This obituary was prepared by the Advertising Department (928) 556-2279.
