| Bailey Francis Thompson Born in West Virginia, Fairmont on April 3, 1924 Departed on Sept. 17, 2006 and resided in Cottonwood, Ariz. Bailey Francis Thompson, 82 of Cottonwood, Ariz., passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2006. He was born on April 3, 1924 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Jenny Thompson and Bailey Thompson, Sr. His deceased brother and sisters are: Harold Thompson, Genevieve Perry and Eugenia Le Sage. He leaves behind his wife, Doris Thompson of Cottonwood, Ariz., his niece Christine Allen(Jack), a grand-niece Elizabeth Allen, a grand-nephew William Allen, a nephew Frank Le Sage (Pat), a grand-nephew Vernon Le Sage. Bailey and Doris were married 61 years and many of those years were spent on the Navajo Reservation. First working at St. Christopher's Mission in Bluff, Utah with Father H. B. Liebber, receiving excellent training in mission duties. In the 1960's their friend Father John Davis, then Superintendent of Good Shepherd Episcopal Mission at Ft. Defiance, Ariz. offered them the position as Lay Missionaries at St. Mark's Chapel at Coal Mine, N.M. and also at St. Mary's Mission at Sanders, Ariz. which was a weekly gathering of Navajos meeting in their homes for prayer services. The Mission at Coal Mine involved weekly prayer services and holy communion services, confirmations, instructuction and making many hogan visiting calls. This was the most fulfilling and joyful experience Bailey had ever had serving God and the Navajos. Many enduring friendships were made there. Before moving to Cottonwood, Bailey and Doris managed the Wetherhill Inn in Kayenta, Ariz. and were able to visit their friends on the reservation. After moving to Cottonwood, Bailey became the first Eucharistic Minister for St. Francis Cabrini Church in Camp Verde, Ariz. and the Immaculate Conception Church in Cottonwood, Ariz. He took the Blessed Sacrament to the sick in the hospitals and rest homes and to the home bound. He loved this service but was forced to retire in the 1990's due to his health. He will always be remembered for his gentleness, quick wit and the beautiful paintings in oil that he produced of the southwest and his deep and abiding faith in God.
