Bonnie P. Connell passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2012, at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Grass Lake, Mich., to Howard and Mildred (Hustler) Peckham.

She is survived by her husband, Donald F. Connell; five children, Susan Roszel of West Chester, Ohio, Sally Keppler of Grove City, Pa., Sandra Turcotte of Statham, Ga., Stacey Connell of Grand Canyon, Ariz., and Clay Connell of Atlanta, Ga. She had five grandsons, James, Ted and Philip Roszel and Nick and Alex Keppler.

Her parents and her sister, Judith (Peckham) Johnson, all of Jackson, Mich., had preceded her in death.

Bonnie grew up in Jackson, Mich., where she attended local schools including Jackson Junior College. Later, while seeking her undergraduate degree in psychology in Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, she met her future husband, who was also pursuing a bachelor's degree at Miami University, having served earlier in the Army Air Corps during World War II. The couple married in Jackson, Mich., in June 1951 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Bonnie began her professional career as an elementary school teacher.

Over 36 years (taking time off from time to time to raise her growing family), she earned a master's degree in remedial reading and taught at elementary schools in Ohio, Michigan and Arizona. The family moved in 1994 to Prescott, Ariz., where she taught kindergarten classes at Chino Valley's Territorial Elementary School until her retirement in June 2007.

No formal ceremony is planned. The family will celebrate her outstanding life as wife, mother and educator at a future date.
