Dorothy “Ike” Johnson, 87, of Lake Montezuma, died Sunday, June 3.

Johnson, who was a volunteer for the Lions Club and Meals on Wheels, was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Carlson and Margaret O’Brien; and is survived by her husband, Byrl Johnson; a son, Robert Shields, of Florida; a brother, Robert Bax, of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service took place at Westcott Funeral Home, on Wednesday, June 6.

Born in Girard, Pennsylvannia on Sept. 18, 1919.
Departed on June 3, 2007 and resided in Lake Montezuma, Ariz.

Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson, known and loved by all as “Ike”, age 87, resident of Lake Montezuma, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007 in Sedona, Ariz.

She was born September 18, 1919 to Clyde Richard and Esther Rose (Shutt) Bax in Girard, Pennsylvania, where she grew up-attending both the local elementary school and high school.

Following High School, Ike became owner and operator of Penningtons Department Store. She was also very active in whichever community she resided. She was a volunteer for the Lion’s Club, and for the Meals on Wheels Program.

Ike was a member of the Methodist Faith. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling and shopping.

She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen Carlson, and Margaret O’Brien. Ike was a loving wife for 56 years to Albert Byrl Johnson of Lake Montezuma; she was the dedicated mother to her son and only child, Robert Dennis Shields of Merritt Island, Fla.; the sister of Robert Bax of Lake City, Penn.; the devoted grandma of Gay Marrs, husband, Joe of Denton, Texas, Robin Beal,husband, Shawn of Merritt Island, Fla., Jody Miller, husband, Eric of Collierville, Tenn., Jessica Helms, husband, Ronnie of Rowlett, Texas, and Guy Shields, wife, Lisa of Dallas, Texas; she was also the adored great-grandma of 8 great-grandchildren, Trevor, Travis, Christian, Marissa, Matthew, Seth, Brooke and Justin.

A Memorial Service will be held at Westcott Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
