John A. Waddell

John A. Waddell died Jan. 28, 2006 in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Junction City, Kan., the son of Alexander W. and Margaret (Whybark) Waddell. John was 70 years old.

John graduated from Junction City High School and attended the University of Kansas, followed by a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, John then moved to the Kansas City area and became involved in the construction industry in various capacities.

John moved to Arizona in 1966 and was active in the guest ranch business for a short time; however the construction business was more promising, so John became licensed in Arizona as a general building contractor and operated his own company for a number of years, in
Wickenburg, Ariz.

John was very active in Wickenburg community affairs, serving on various municipal boards and commissions including a term on the city council.

John sold his construction company in the early '80s. He joined Del Webb Corp. and participated in the management and development of the "Sun Cities" in Arizona. He retired from Del Webb in 1989 as vice president of construction operation, at which time he moved to Prescott.

After a year of retirement, he joined the Yavapai County Building Dept. and in 2002 retired as Senior Building Inspector for the County.

John had a lifetime interest in Western lifestyles. He especially enjoyed seeing Arizona from the back of his horse, John.

Since his college days he was a proud owner of a Corvette and a member of Prescott's Vette Sette.

John is survived by his wife JoAnn Rieder-Waddell; daughter Joan (James) Robinson of Bonner Springs, Kan.; sisters, Dr. Margaret Ann Ellis of Valdosta, Ga., Mary (Ronald) Chaney of Anthem, Ariz., and Patricia (Max) Fagerquist of Anderson, Calif.; grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle; nieces, Sandra and Lisa; and nephews, Lawrence and Ronald.

A Celebration of John's life with sharing of memories will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez, Prescott, Ariz., 86303.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Hospice of the Pines, 13175 E. Highway 69, Dewey, Ariz.,
