Joseph A. Smith, 45, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on April 9, 2004 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife Mary and children Justin (15) and Laney (18) and parents Jerry and Esther Smith of Phoenix. Joe also leaves behind many close friends for whom he cared deeply and encouraged daily with his faith in Jesus Christ. Born in Kansas City, KS. March 30, 1959; educated at Univ. Missouri (Rolla) and Masters degree at ASU. Joe was a long-standing employee at Honeywell, were he received numerous technical and achievement awards in the Avionics Division. He was highly regarded for his intellect and he held 2 patents. Joe loved life, cherished his family and friends and served God with all his strength. He served for many years in leadership roles in his church. Joe understood the value of life and relationships and he never knew a stranger. Work associates, doctors, nurses, friends, family and neighbors were all embraced and loved. Joe's passion for life included motorcycle rides, water sports, Hawaii, and anything with a challenge. But most of all, he was a true seeker of truth and knowledge and had a passion for God, where Joe found his purpose in life - to bring glory to God in all things. Visitation Tuesday April 13th at Phoenix Memorial Mortuary. Services Wednesday, April 14th, 2004, at the Tatum Blvd. Church of Christ, 18010 N. Tatum Blvd. followed by graveside memorial.
