I. Gayle Shuman

I. Gayle Shuman of Tempe Arizona passed to eternal rest on June 8, 2004.

Gayle was born on May 10, 1933 in Plains, Kansas. His parents were Irven and Thelma Shuman of Higley, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Shuman of Tempe, brother Don Shuman of Annandale, Va., sister Suzy Hessman of Sun Lakes. Mother-in-law, Opal Rogers, of Tempe, eight nieces and nephews.

Gayle's military career began in 1951 with the US Marine Corps and ended in 1961 as an Air Force military reserve officer. At the time of Gayle's passing, he was a retired associate professor and director of Justice studies at A.S.U. Gayle had an extensive and impressive career history which included a Bachelor of Science degree in the Master of Arts, Doctorate of education at A.S.U., Professor Emeritus, School of Justice studies at A.S.U. During his career Gayle was also director of A.S.U. housing and campus security. Gayle also had a career in the F.B.I. as a special agent, during which time he received special commendations from director J. Edgar Hoover.

Throughout Gayle's career he served as a manuscript consultant with many publishing companies and correctional agencies. He was also an instructor at the Phoenix Police Regional training academy. It was during this time that Gayle impacted so many people's lives with his dedication to the value of education and his desire to share his knowledge. He had the ability to keep his students enthralled in his subject matter and his sense of humor added a special touch to his classes. He was truly a gifted teacher who left a mark in the law enforcement community.

Visitation at Carr Tenney Mortuary 2621 S. Rural Rd. Tempe, Az. Friday, June 11, 2004. Services Saturday June 12 at the same location. Burial will be at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, Chandler.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the 100 Club (A non-profit organization supporting the families of Public safety officers when tragedy strikes.) 5151 N. 19th Avenue, Suite 204, Phoenix, Az. 85015 or Hospice of the Valley 6063 E. Arbor Ave. Building B, Mesa, Az. 85206.
