Daniel Merle Sophy of Phoenix, Arizona, a beloved and estranged son of Mike and Sandra Sophy, died unexpectedly on December 28, 2005, at the age of 39. Dan was born in Tucson, Arizona, on November 12, 1966. He was the older of two brothers. Dan lived a short tragic life which he described as a life of "unfulfilled goals and unrealized potential." As a precocious child, Dan learned to read and write at the age of two. By the age of four, after his brother was born, he wrote a book about the disruption in his then young life. Dan did very well in school. He graduated from Brophy College Preparatory in 1984; he graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame in 1988 and from ASU Law School in 1991. In 1993 he married Mary Ann Guillen. At the time of his death he was a practicing attorney in Phoenix. Dan is adored always by his mother and father. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Merle Edward Sophy, whose name he bore; by his maternal grandparents, Mania and Urie Beregovsky; and by his cousin John Frisbey.
