Charles L. Smith

Charles L. Smith was born in Summers County, W.V., June 10, 1930 to Bernice C. and Charles Bernard Smith.

He passed into the arms of his loving heavenly Father on Feb. 5, 2009. He graduated high school in 1949 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He attended Anderson College, Anderson, Ind. and graduated in 1960. He also graduated from Ball State University in 1962.

He pursued and married Delta J. Beckwith from Clovis, N.M. on Friday the 13 of November in 1953. To this union were born two daughters, Lynette Sue and Charlene Kay and two sons, Michael Lee and Paul Andrew. Charlie worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Crow Agency, Mont. from 1964 to 1969. In 1969 he transferred to the San Carlos Indian Reservation in Arizona. In 1971 he transferred to the Phoenix Indian School and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in November of 1984. He and Delta moved to Prescott Valley in June of 1993.

He is survived by his loving wife Delta; their children, Lynette (Ted), Charlene, Mike (Sadie), Paul; and seven grandchildren, Matthew (Trish), April (Jeremy) Rhea, Nathan, Jason, Cody and Kendel; one great grandchild Xavier; and sister Juanita (Joe) Winner. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Joel Lake.
