Born in Houston, Texas on July 31, 1952.
Departed on May 6, 2008 and resided in Cottonwood, Ariz.

Michael Charles, 55, resident of Cottonwood, Ariz., passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was the son of Oland and Lola (Freeman) Charles; born July 31, 1952 in Houston, Texas. Michael was a graduate of Sierra Madre High School, in California.

Michael worked as a Mechanical and Avionics Engineer; a balloon pilot; as well as in computer design.

Michael was the owner and operator of Arizona Balloon Works; and took great pride in taking first place at the 2003 Great Reno Balloon Race.

He not only enjoyed hot air balloons, but also radio control airplanes and helicopters, sailing, kites and various sports.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 16 years, Laura Charles of Cottonwood; son Gregory (13); daughter, Megan (6); three brothers, Greg Charles, wife Julie of Lake Charles, La., Steve George, wife, Jill of Albany, Texas, and Doug Freeman, wife, Sandy of Modesto, Calif.; brother-in-law, Tim Satorius, wife, Lorna of Annandale, Va.; and his father-in-law, Carl Satorius with his wife, Shirley of Marshfield, Wisc..

Services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Cottonwood; where Michael was a member. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Michael will then be laid to rest at the Valley View Cemetery in Clarkdale, Ariz.
