Verva M. (Callan) Dyment

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on April 27, 1916.
Departed on March 13, 2008 and resided in formerly of Cottonwood, Ariz.

Verva M. (Callan) Dyment passed away peacefully on March 13, 2008 at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, California. Prior to moving to Taft, California in February 2008 she had been a 37-year resident of Camp Verde and Cottonwood, Arizona.

She was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on April 27, 1916 to James and Elizabeth Callan. She moved with her parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters to California in 1929, settling first in Los Angeles and later in Coalinga, California. She attended Franklin High School in Los Angeles.

Verva married Harry L. Dyment in 1935 and the couple had 4 children. A resourceful wife and mother, she raised 2 sons, Ronald and Terry, and 2 daughters, Sandra and Verva. She is survived by her children Terry (Mary Margaret) and Verva Myers in addition to 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 97-year old sister, Delphine Palmer and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband and children Ronald and Sandra.

She enjoyed a wonderful life with her husband who was a professional athlete who gained fame as a pitcher in the sport of organized softball. After his playing years were over he and Verva owned a successful business in Los Angeles in the die making and graphic arts industry.

The couple retired in 1970 and moved to Camp Verde, Arizona where Harry passed away in 1972.

Verva was a communicant until her death at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood. She also greatly enjoyed participating in community affairs in every place she lived. She had many friends she enjoyed talking with, and she made a highlight of going out to breakfast with her friends and family.

Most of all, Verva will be remembered for the loving care she gave to all who knew her, and particularly her children and grandchildren. In the last few years she had arthritis which limited her mobility, but she continued to have a smile and a pleasant word for everyone.

A Memorial Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood, Arizona on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery, Verde Valley, Ariz.
