McCORMICK, Evelyn "Mimi"

Evelyn "Mimi" McCormick , 89, of Scottsdale, passed away April 19th.

She was born February 5, 1914, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Walter L. Leedy and Lulu Elizabeth Fussay. After graduating from nursing school in 1935, Mimi worked with a physician helping to develop a revolutionary new formula for newborns, later known as Similac. In 1939, her R.N. license qualified her to become a stewardess for American Airlines, where she flew until she was married to "her captain" in 1952. Mimi was one of the seven founding members of what was to become a national organization of former American Airlines stewardesses/ flight attendants, the Kiwi's.

Some of Mimi's favorite pastimes were traveling the world with her husband, sewing, swimming, listening to classical music, crossword puzzles and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Captain Bill McCormick, in 2001, and is survived by the other great loves in her life: her two daughters and their husbands, Lynne and Bill Quackenbush of Fort Worth, Nancy and Mike Pubentz of San Diego; grandchildren Tracy Martin and David McCormick; and her great grandchild Isabella Martin.

Mimi's family would like to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love from her many close friends during her illness and especially the staff of the Weyrich Healthcare Center at Westminster Village, who gave meaning to the word "compassion," and to the definition of excellent nursing care.

A memorial service will be held at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley.

The family requests that donations be made to "My Sister's Place," sponsored by the Phoenix Kiwi's, c/o Shirley Konon, 5711 N. 73rd St. Scottsdale, AZ 85250.
