| Bishop Phil Rey Sherwood, 51, of Mesa, AZ. passed away on - August 29, 2003. Phil was born in Springerville, Arizona on May 11, 1952. He is survived by his wife Kristi, mother Valene Heap, sons; Justin (Amy), Travis (Lacy), Clayton, daughter Hillary, four brothers; John, Kenneth, Ted, and Jason, and two sisters; Danna Nuttall and Sandra Harral. He was the Happy Grandpa of six grandchildren. Phil graduated from Mesa High School and served a full-time mission in Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a successful career in home building as Vice President of Construction for Gietz Master Builders. Phil served as Bishop of the Fairfield Ward for just under five years, before he was called home after a 1 ½ year battle with cancer. To honor Phil, his family invites you to a viewing on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Services will be held the following day, Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Mesa Kimball East Stake Center at 4640 E. Holmes, with a viewing at 9:00 AM followed by memorial services at 10:00 AM. The Bishop Phil R. Sherwood Memorial Fund has been establish to benefit missionaries and scouting. Phil is a firm believer in families with a strong belief that families can be together forever.
