Martha Louise (Gray) Dye

Martha Louise Dye, a longtime resident, passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at her home in Hayden.

She was born in New River, Arizona on Oct. 15, 1918 to Reg and Bessie Gray. Louise grew up in Hayden and lived in the area all her life.

She met her future husband, Byron, when he worked as a truck driver for the ’79 mine and she was a telephone operator in Hayden. Louise was well known in Hayden. She worked for the U.S. Post Office and Polly’s Department Store.

Louise was the founding leader for the Camp Fire Girls and was active in the Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a lady of many talents as seen in her needlepoint, beading and various crafts. Louise was truly a cowgirl; she loved horses, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.

Survivors include a daughter, Dottie Nelson of Oracle, and son, Harvey Dye and his wife Helen of Anthem, Arizona. Her extended loving family includes grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Louise will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Kearny with Pastor Carol Hosler officiating.
