The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, February 21, 2009 Elwin "Cash" Cashatt died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, in Chino Valley after a long illness. He was born April 25, 1926, in Orchard, Neb., to Floyd and Hazel Cashatt. He grew up in Nebraska and, after graduating from high school, in 1944 he joined the Army Air Corps. He married Mable Starks in Scottsbluff, Neb., in 1944. After they were married, Mr. Cashatt was sent to Tampa, Fla., and then to Italy, where he fought the ending days of WWII. After the end of the war, they moved back to Nebraska, where their two children were born. They then lived in Wyoming, New Mexico, California and Arizona. He worked 32 years in the oilfield business with three different companies. He was salesman of the year in 1982 for Jet Lube. He retired in 1987 and moved to Chino Valley, where he enjoyed playing bridge and golf. He and Mable Cashatt were married for over 50 years and she died in 1999. They both enjoyed traveling and together they saw North America, China and Europe. Mr. Cashatt had many friends and family here in Chino Valley and was very active in his community. He was a founding member of the Chino Valley United Methodist Church and was active in the American Legion and Lions Club. In 2008, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services. He was also active in his 463rd Bomb Group, attending their annual reunions. The great joy of his life was his three grandchildren (and their wives); he was honored to live to see four of his great-grandchildren. Survivors include his two children, Christine (Albert) Maitland of Concord, Calif., and Nick (Peggy) Cashatt of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Cashatt of Prescott, Keith (Beth) Cashatt of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Kevin (Kallie) Cashatt of Flagstaff, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; and his partner, Nellie Merrifield. A celebration of Mr. Cashatt's life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Chino Valley United Methodist Church, 735 East Road 1 South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Chino Valley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1869, Chino Valley, Ariz. 86323.
