Joseph Wychelewski

Joseph Wychelewski of Prescott Valley, Ariz., while surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord on Feb. 9, 2009, at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 23, 1925. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in World War II. After returning from the war, he worked as an electrician for U.S. Steel in Chicago for 38 years. Shortly after he retired, he moved to Prescott Valley.

Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of St. Germaine Catholic Church, singing in their choir for 19 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Joseph was a skilled gardener, tending to many rose bushes, and an avid weather-watcher, having recorded the high and low temperatures and rainfall for the past 22 1/2 years he lived in Prescott Valley. He was also a world traveler, having visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Europe.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sophie Wychelewski, and six of his sisters and brothers. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Linda Myers Wychelewski; daughters Judy Swiger of Mahomet, Ill., Barbara Maxwell of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ann Marie (Bill) Sutter of Shingletown, Calif.; grandchildren Matthew Swiger and Sabrina Sutter; two brothers, Harry Wychelewski of Dolton, Ill., and Edward Wichelecki of Plainfield, Ill.; sister Helen Rys of Valparaiso, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at St. Germaine Catholic Church on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with visitation at 9:15 a.m., the saying of the Rosary at 9:45 a.m., and Mass at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon provided by the St. Germaine Ladies' Guild will follow. After the luncheon, burial will take place at Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given in honor of Joseph's memory to the St. Germaine Building Fund, 7997 E. Dana Dr., Prescott Valley, Ariz., 86314.
