The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, February 23, 2009 Verna Evelyn Willis passed away Feb. 20, 2009 in Prescott, Ariz. She was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Codyville, Maine, one of 13 children. Her parents were LaForest and Flora Cochran. Verna is survived by her son, Lawrence Preston of Prescott Valley; a daughter and son-in-law Mary and Larry Miller of Prescott; and four grandchildren, Ken Miller of Portland, Ore., Rebecca Poteet of Lindale, Texas, Mark Miller of Gilbert, Ariz., Pat Kleinschmidt of Manchester, Mich.; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Lawrence Preston, Jr. of Chino Valley, Ariz., three sisters and two brothers. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Church of Christ in Prescott. In earlier years, she worked as director of a retirement home. Until her death she remained devoted to her loving family of siblings, all living in Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Granite Mountain Hospice, 3107 Clearwater Drive, Prescott, Ariz., 86305 or YRMC Hospice of Prescott Valley, 3262 N. Windsong, Prescott Valley, Ariz., 86314. There will be a family grave-side service in Chino Valley at a later date.
