Hugh Cameron Barefoot, resident of Rimrock, born September 2, 1921, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008. Cameron was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and spent his tour of duty as an Instructor for teaching mechanics on engines and aircraft. At this time, he was asked to instruct the first all black class of navy students. He was quite proud of his class. He took the highest ranked student to be his whip and made sure they studied. Between the two of them, every student passed and went on to better jobs in the Navy. When he was Honorably Discharged he took advantage of the G.I. Bill, completing four years of the college of Tulane University in New Orleans. Cameron and his family moved to Prescott in 1975. He was preceded in death by two sons, Clyde and Brian. Cameron is survived by his wife, Betty; four sons, Bruce, Keith, Geoffrey Barefoot, and Stephen Allgrove; two daughters, Bonnie Coster and Stacey Barefoot; a niece, Paula Bergeron; three granddaughters, Sarah, Juliana, Jayna; and one grandson, Jesse. Cameron is loved and will be missed by all of us. No local services are planned. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com Westcott Funeral Home, Cottonwood, Arizona.
