The Daily Courier Prescott, Arizona March 28, 2007 Edward Thomas Pawlak, Lt. Col. U.S.A.F., retired, age 85, formerly of Prescott, Arizona, died of kidney failure at his residence in St. Joseph, Mo., on Saturday, March 24, 2007. He was loved and is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Pawlak; daughters, Pat Pawlak Carter and Kathy Pawlak Ridge; son-in-law, W.M. Carter; and the Carter grandchildren, Katherine, Victoria and Edward. Ed was born April 2, 1921, to Stanley and Mary (Salada) Pawlak in Chicago, Illinois, where he was raised. After enlisting in the Air Force on Valentine's Day in 1942, he graduated from Luke AFB with his wings in June 1943. During WWII, he was stationed in England, France and the Philippines. After the war, he moved back to Chicago and returned to his work as an engraver. In Chicago on Sept. 10, 1949, he married Shirley Firlinger, and shortly thereafter they moved to California. He worked at Lockheed, maintained an engraving practice and continued in the Air Force reserves. Ed and Shirley moved their family to Prescott, Arizona, in the fall of 1964. During their first nine years in Prescott, the family operated a hamburger stand just outside of town. Concurrently, Ed worked as a foreman at Quality Plastics and continued engraving. After retiring, Ed worked at the local Meals on Wheels as route coordinator. His other activities included enjoying his grandchildren, entertaining at nursing homes, performing in community theater, and, his lifelong hobby, building model airplanes. After a year in Cottonwood, Arizona, Ed and Shirley moved to their current home in St. Joseph, Mo. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Bram Funeral Home, Maysville, Mo., with burial in the Isadora Cemetery, Sheridan, Mo. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 30, 2007, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Bram Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Information provided by survivors. |
