Amelia (Amy) M. Whitson, 85, passed away on May 31, 2007, in Peoria, Arizona.

The daughter of the late Archie Brown and Lena Chetiar, Amy spent a large part of her life in Black Canyon City at the Maggie Mine, initially with her parents in the 20s and 30s and later in the 70s, 80s and 90s with her beloved husband John Whitson.

Amy graduated from Glendale High School in 1940 and spent her early adulthood in California.

Residents of Black Canyon City will surely recall Amy's long tenure at the Rock Springs Cafe where she contributed her vast experiences to bring to life many of the menu favorites found there today.

A friend, colleague, and mother to all, Amy brought a unique charismatic charm to the Cafe until her retirement in 1998.

Amy was preceded in death by her son Doug Marglin and husband of over 25 years, John Whitson.

A true love story, Amy and John met in California in the 70s, married and moved back to Black Canyon City, Arizona where they opened their hearts and home to family and friends from around the world.

Amy was well-known for her hospitality, charm, gregarious nature and sense of humor and will surely be missed by all who had the honor to know her.

Amy is survived by her stepson Michael Whitson and grandsons William Flowers and Jacob Whitson of Florence, Arizona.

Funeral services will remain private. In lieu of flowers, friends of Amy are asked to make a donation in her name to Encore Assisted Living Community, 9045 West Athens St., Peoria, Ariz., 85382.

Note: Amelia's mother was Chretien not Chetiar as shown in the obituary per Theresa (Pigati) Lipton.
